A Carbon Fast for Lent: Day 28

Day 28: Do a home energy audit (e.g, here's one anyone can take). You could save a lot of money on energy bills.

The UK version of the Carbon Fast suggests one can save up to 250 UK (more than $500 US) on energy costs per year. That's not chump change in this economy. It's almost as much as the tax rebate we're supposed to get later this year. One of things we'll have to address this year at St. Thomas's is how we can be more efficient with our utilities as well. We run the physical plant for ministry every day, and so utilities become a major factor in our budget. We may be able to do an energy audit there and find ways to to reduce our expenditures without reducing our capacity for ministry.

Can you check with your church or other community and see what they can do? And can you do an energy audit for your own home or apartment? What would the net cost be for you?

Mercifully hear our prayers, O Lord, and spare all those who confess their sins to you; that those whose consciences are accused by sin may by your merciful pardon be absolved; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
