The GOEs Start Today

All candidates for ordination in The Episcopal Church have to take a series of sit-down essay examinations called the General Ordination Examinations, sometimes known as God's Own Exams. They are always offerred during the first week of January, and sometimes even on Epiphany itself, a practice that offends my liturgical sensibilities. I myself took them in January of 2006. Be that as it may, please pray for all those sitting for the exams as we speak (h/t to Ember Days for the collect):

O Fount of All Being, who speakest an eternal Word that we might know thee, and pourest forth an eternal Gift that we might love thee: We beseech thee to strengthen, enlighten, and inspire all those who shall take the General Ordination Examination. Calm their spirits and clear their minds, that they may rest confidently upon the faithfulness of the one to whose service thou hast called them, even Jesus Christ our Lord, who with thee and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
